157 Charter Oak, a former warehouse for Colt, was a dilapidated eyesore in the Coltsville neighborhood before it was converted into office space by CIL. The historic character of the building is apparent throughout the space, which retains architectural details such as exposed ductwork and brick, wooden beams, and historic signage from the buildings past life. The building is home to CIL’s headquarters, as well as The Peace Center of Connecticut, and Klingberg Family Centers' Hartford office.

At CIL, we strongly believe in work and play balance, and encourage this balance with our policies as well as our office space.  The office layout facilitates communication through strategically placed, fun, group gathering spaces that allow for ‘bump and spark’ moments. These spaces include our outdoor, WiFi-equipped, patio, where staff can work when weather permits, as well as a meditation room, library, and fitness center (ping pong table included!).

Additionally, features such as vending machines, lounge space, and various kitchen amenities provide options for staff work and play. The space is fully handicap accessible, keeping in the spirit of CIL’s mission to create communities where everyone is welcome.
